Our presence in Madagascar is strong and growing rapidly
- Our biggest supply source for soft commodities is the island of Madagascar
- We have made significant investments in Madagascar in terms of equipment and facilities and are capable of sourcing products from across the region
- Our goal is to be the supplier of choice for the spices and beans market for products originating in Madagacsar. To strenghten our position, we have invested in:
- Three warehouses across the island: Manakara, Mahajunga and Tamatave
- Equipment designed for sorting beans based on size
- Full time personnel and operations managers in each location
- We are proud of our extensive and reliable network of farmers and suppliers and work closely with them to ensure that we pay fair prices and procure products that are of world class quality
Robusta Green Coffee Beans
- Our warehouse and operations in Manakara are especially designed to accommodate the sourcing and processing of large volumes of Robusta Green Coffee Beans
- Robusta is the largest cultivated species of coffee beans in Madagascar. The soil and climate in the south of Madagascar make for ideal conditions for the growth of Robusta
- A very small proportion of Madagascar's coffee production is Arabica and given the volatility in crop production of Arabica, we have consciously focussed on building a strong and reliable network of Robusta farmers and suppliers
- Our warehouse includes a reception facility and full sized coffee beans sorting equipment that can sort based on screen sizes 14, 16, 18 and over
- Coffee beans are normally packed in 60 kg jute bags and our quality control team consistently delivers the finest coffee beans to our global clients
- Madagascar Robusta, given its earthy and strong flavour, is typically used in blending with Arabica to produce a fine, aromatic coffee. Alternatively, it can be roasted and ground and enjoyed on its own!
Cocoa Beans
- Our warehouse and operations in Mahajunga have been established this year with a view to sourcing and supplying high quality Madagascar cocoa beans
- The most popularly grown varieties of cocoa in Madagascar are Criollo and Trinitario. A very small proportion of the annual production is Forastero
- The Criollo and Trinitario cocoa beans of Madagascar are known globally as one of the finest beans.
- These beans are organically produced and are known for their richness in taste, texture and flavour when processed into fine chocolates
Spices
- Madagascar is blessed with soil and climate conditions that are ideal for the cultivation of spices
- At Helm, we are focussed on procuring and supplying to our global clients a few key spices, namely:
- Cloves
- Black pepper
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Our quality control is stringent and our team has been on the ground for over 2 decades building relationships with spice growers and sourcing the finest quality spices for our discerning clients
